Fundraising

Effective fundraising enables our work to save the Baltic Sea.

Fundraising in 2024

We raise financing for our activities from both companies and individuals, and apply to funds and foundations for grants. We carried out corporate, community and private fundraising through campaigns, sales work and other activities.

In 2024, we ran both year-round digital advertising campaigns and seasonal campaigns to attract private donations. We promoted monthly donations with the aid of, among other things, tele-campaigns. We continued to participate in the Finnish Fundraising Association’s Hyvä Testamentti (Good Will) campaign, and successfully implemented a fundraising campaign for bequests.

We improved our customer retention and acquisition by enhancing our continuous customer communications, and by revamping our invoicing process and payment methods for monthly donations. We monitored the impact and effectiveness of our campaigns. Our net promoter score for customer satisfaction remained at an excellent level.

Result

We exceeded our fundraising target in 2024. We achieved a good fundraising result (EUR 1,973,187) in spite of the challenging economic environment. The target was reached with respect to corporate and foundation fundraising, and was exceeded in private donations. The amounts that were donated also increased. We also received professional services with an estimated notional value of EUR 1,488,636 in the form of pro bono donations.

Supporters

Our Foundation had seven main supporters in 2024. The Foundation also has key supporters, corporate partners and corporate sponsors, as well as a significant number of pro bono supporters.

Responsible fundraising

The John Nurminen Foundation is a member of the Finnish Fundraising Association. We are committed to using donations responsibly, and ensure that donors’ funds are primarily allocated to carrying out our mission. We monitor the value of the “donor’s euro” on an annual basis, and make regular reports to donors to let them know what has been achieved with their support.

In particular, we are looking to partner with companies for whom the Baltic Sea is an essential environment from a business and sustainability perspective. We select our partners carefully and follow ethical guidelines to ensure that they are committed to the Foundation’s values and mission. Working with the Foundation promotes several UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as life below water, clean water and sanitation, climate action, and life on land.
