Subsidiaries and associated companies

The Foundation’s commercial activities, such as book sales, are the responsibility of our subsidiary Baltic Sea Services Oy. Yhteinen perintö Oy developed and and maintained the Digimuseum.

Baltic Sea Services Oy

The Foundation’s business activities have been separated from its social and charitable work. Commercial operations are handled by the Foundation’s wholly owned subsidiary, Baltic Sea Services Oy (BSS). It focuses on selling the Foundation’s books and ecologically sustainable fan products, and also develops our business and service activities.

The company’s Board of Directors consists of the members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and the Foundation’s CEO. Tommi Juusela was Chair of the Board of Directors, and the other members of the Board were Kaisa Olkkonen, Annamari Arrakoski-Engardt and Marja-Leena Rinkineva.

In accordance with a decision made by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, Tommi Juusela led the creation of a new ownership strategy for Baltic Sea Services Oy, which was approved at a Board meeting on 8 February 2024. The strategy emphasises the subsidiary’s role in achieving the Foundation’s mission. It promotes the sale of the Foundation’s publications, such as books, and raises its profile. In line with this strategy, the company is expected to post a positive result within five years.

The subsidiary developed its sales and marketing activities during 2024. The company recruited a new part-time employee following the resignation of the business development manager in February.

The company’s sales surpassed the budgeted amount, and its result for the 2024 financial year was a loss of EUR 128,081 (a loss of EUR 121,731 in 2023). Baltic Sea Services Oy was granted a capital loan of EUR 100,000 to cover its operational costs, of which EUR 20,000 was paid during the financial year. On the financial statement date (31 December 2024), the Foundation had receivables from Baltic Sea Services Oy totalling EUR 176,417 (EUR 156,417 in 2023).

The result for Baltic Sea Services is reported in the consolidated income statement.
