Restoration of peat production areas
We are lowering greenhouse gas emissions, reducing nutrient runoff into the Baltic Sea and increasing biodiversity by restoring disused peatlands to their natural state.
Suokeidas (Peatland Oasis)
In the project “Suokeidas – From peat production to diverse wetlands”, we are lowering greenhouse gas emissions, reducing nutrient runoff into the Baltic Sea and increasing biodiversity by restoring disused peatlands to their natural state.
In 2025
- We planned and carried out the restoration of two former peat production areas into bogs and wetlands.
- We diverted runoff water from forest drainage areas to the restored areas for purification
- We piloted the transplanting of peat moss
