Improving coastal habitats
We are promoting the utilisation of reeds and the development of reed-based production chains. By mowing reeds, we are removing nutrients from eutrophicated coastal waters.
BalticReed
The BalticReed project is aiming to remove nutrients from coastal waters.
In 2025
- We mowed 30 hectares of reed beds, which removed 180–300 kg of phosphorus.
- We helped create sustainable reed value chains.
- We found new uses for reed materials.
Our partners are:
Race for the Baltic, the County Administrative Board of Östergötland, Arcada University of Applied Sciences, the Government of Åland, and the Southwest Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. The project is co-funded by the EU Interreg Central Baltic Programme.
