Restoration
We are improving marine biodiversity by restoring important marine habitats and key species. We are also strengthening both the relationship that people have with the sea and their understanding of it, so that they are prepared to take concrete action to protect it.
Sea Too
The Sea Too project is aiming to develop solutions that promote the sustainable use of marine nature and resources. Greater visibility for marine nature conservation is also being sought through joint communications issued with both our Finnish and international partners for this project.
In 2025
- We restored common eelgrass meadows by transplanting seedlings to suitable sites along the coastlines of Sweden and the Gulf of Finland – an area covering about 0.4 hectares in total.
- We promoted citizen science and getting volunteer divers involved in mapping sea meadows.
- We launched a process to collect cultural and ecological data, and organised the first data collection workshop in Korpoström in collaboration with the Archipelago Sea Biosphere Reserve.
- We began preparing the “Between Species” art projects with one Norwegian and two Finnish artists.
- We expanded our international cooperation in Sweden, Denmark and elsewhere in the Baltic Sea region, and also outside the region.
Our partners include:
Metsähallitus’ Parks & Wildlife Finland unit, the cities of Helsinki and Kristianstad, diving clubs (H2O, Nousu), the County Administrative Board of Skåne, UNESCO biosphere reserves in the Baltic Sea region, and universities. Our partners for international communications are La Fondation de la Mer (France) and La Fondazione MEDSEA (Italy).
