Improving the handling of bulk cargo at ports
We are reducing discharges of nutrients and harmful substances into the sea during the handling of bulk cargo in shipping.
CargoRes
In this project, which was launched in September 2025, we are applying the lessons learned during the Fertiliser Shipping project, which ran from 2020 to 2024. We will expand these measures to all bulk cargoes which cause emissions that are harmful to the marine environment.
- We are identifying the greatest risks associated with cargo handling
- We are compiling best practices for reducing emissions
- We will be implementing best practices at ports and shipping companies in Finland, Latvia, Estonia and Sweden.
Our partners are:
Laurea University of Applied Sciences, Kotka Maritime Research Centre (Merikotka), and Tallinn University of Technology.
The project is co-funded by the EU Interreg Central Baltic Programme.
