Events on the Baltic Sea Day
Let’s celebrate the Baltic Sea! Are you going to take action to help the sea or is your plan to take part in the Baltic Sea Day plunge?
Baltic Sea Day offers a deep dive into our home sea for both seasoned Baltic Sea enthusiasts and those for whom the sea feels distant and unfamiliar. On Baltic Sea Day, you will learn more about the sea’s diverse nature, culture, and history—not forgetting its significance as a source of joy, inspiration, and relaxation!
Initiated by the John Nurminen Foundation, Baltic Sea Day is celebrated annually on the last Thursday of August with various events and activities around the sea.

The crowd plunge at Hietsu beach
at 17:00-18:30
Hiekkarannantie 11, Helsinki
Join us at Hietsu for Finland’s biggest plunge to celebrate the Baltic Sea! At 6 p.m. we will dip into the water together! Everyone is welcome to join in their own style. You can simply wade in the water or go for a longer swim lap. More experienced open-water swimmers can take a longer swim guided by the Swimming Association.
Digital Exhibitions
at Digimuseo.fi
On the Baltic Sea Day, we will be offering tours of our exhibitions. The tours will be conducted in Finnish.
You can however explore our other digital exhibitions in English from the comfort of your own sofa! The photo above is of a common ringed plover, taken by Raimo Sundelin, whose photos can be seen at our digital exhibition ‘Birds in the Baltic Sea‘.
